Following BFL CANADA’s donation to the Starlight Fun Center in July, another insurer has stepped forward, donating to the Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital.
The Guarantee Company of North America announced it has pledged its support for the creation of a new Fun Center designed by Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada to help brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families, a $20,000 total commitment that has spanned over two years as a President’s Level Sponsor of the Starlight Insurance Gala.
“We are proud to be part of such a great initiative again this year,” said Richard Pouliot, national vice president of operations & distribution for The Guarantee. “The Guarantee strongly supports Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada and the great work they do for children across Canada.”
Back in July of this year, BFL CANADA made a donation that went towards the creation of a Starlight Fun Center at the Paediatric Ward of the Rouge Valley Health System – Scarborough Centenary Hospital. Like The Guarantee, it was also the second-straight year BFL CANADA has supported the Starlight Children’s Foundation.
The Starlight Fun Center is a mobile unit offering kids endless hours of entertainment therapy – from watching DVD movies on a flat-screen TV, to playing a wide variety of Nintendo Wii games. Whether hospitalized children are nervously awaiting surgery, sitting restlessly during a long treatment, or feeling lonely in their hospital room, the Starlight Fun Center helps them cope by providing entertainment and distraction.
The media units can be easily wheeled into ICUs, emergency departments or individual hospital rooms for children who are unable to leave their own beds.
“Starlight is thrilled to have the support of The Guarantee Company of North America,” said Trevor Dicaire, vice president of Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada. “Fun Centers have such a positive impact on hospitalized children, and The Guarantee’s sponsorship of this unit at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital will bring smiles to thousands of children’s faces.”
