The Automobile Insurance Agency of Quebec has joined forces with the Association of Chiefs of Police of Quebec and the Quebec Provincial Police to crack down on impaired driving over the holiday season.

Police operations targeting impaired driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be intensified from November 26 to January 3 in the territory of Québec as part of operation VACCINE.

Road checks and spontaneous interceptions will be conducted intensively in the territory in order to detect and stop drivers with impaired driving ability.

Impaired driving remains a leading cause of fatal crashes in Quebec. In 2014, an average of 37 drivers were arrested every day during operation VACCINE for driving with driving ability impaired by alcohol or drugs.

However, according to data from the Automobile Association of Quebec, in about 80% of collisions where the driver was found guilty of an offense related to drinking and driving, the driver was not a repeat offender.
