Québec’s auditor general has launched an audit into last year’s rollout of Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec’s (SAAQ) auto insurance portal SAAQclic.

The launch, which Québec cybersecurity and digital technology minister Éric Caire has called a “fiasco,” suffered glitches and errors.

The transition also resulted in long queues and delays when service centres reopened after being closed for two weeks for the online switch.

Now auditor general Guylaine Leclerc wants to hear the public’s experience as part of an audit into the portal.

Christian Daigle, head of union SFPQ, was quoted by CBC News as saying: “We need to get to the bottom of things to find out what happened and so that it doesn’t happen again elsewhere in the government.”

There were said to be nearly 15,000 complaints received by the SAAQ in the aftermath of the digital move.

According to Le Soleil newspaper, which first reported the audit, SAAQclic’s price tag is now in excess of $500 million.
