Hyundai has issued an expanded recall on the Tucson compact crossover – a recall that affects nearly 145,000 vehicles in Canada.
The auto manufacturer issued the recall due to an issue with the ABS control module of the affected vehicles, an issue that could lead to a fire risk. Hyundai has already advised customers who own a Tucson to park the vehicle outdoors and away from other automobiles.
Last September, Hyundai recalled 26,491 Tucson vehicles from the 2019 model year. That recall was for an issue with the control module for the antilock brake system. The module could corrode internally, leading to a short circuit that raises the risk of an electrical fire.
The latest recall expands upon that previous bulletin, which now covers Hyundai Tucson vehicles from model years 2016 through 2021 – excluding those with Smart Cruise Control adaptive cruise. Motor Illustrated reported that the total number of vehicles being recalled over the ABS issue is now 144,700.
Hyundai said that it would inform owners via mail to take their Tucson to a dealer to fix the issue. The fix will involve a revision to the ABS fuse wiring and an update to the ABS control module, if necessary.
