Automobile dealers across the country are participating in a month-long campaign against distracted driving.

It is the third year running of the 2017 Auto Dealers Against Distracted Driving Campaign, wherein participating dealers encourage customers to take a pledge against distracted driving.

The campaign is supported by Sovereign General Insurance Company, The Co-operators, Canadian AutoWorld, LoweMartin and Autosphere.ca.

A release noted that dealers that participate in the campaign expect to garner well over 20,000 pledges from their customers, communities, and staff throughout the month of March.

During the campaign, customers who visit participating dealerships can make a free formal pledge to drive without distractions through a website made especially for the campaign. Alternatively, customers can also post their personal pledges on social media, using the hashtag #TakeTheWheel.

Dealership insurer LGM Financial Services started the campaign back in 2015 as a way for auto dealers to address the growing industry issue of distracted driving; it was also the perfect occasion for dealers to influence their customers directly through their retail point-of-sale.

“While we continue to see hundreds of dealers participate in the campaign year over year, our focus for 2017 is to provoke increased engagement between dealers and their customers through online pledges,” said LGM vice-president of Sales for Quebec and campaign lead Marc-Andre Lefebvre.

“By month end, we hope to surpass our 2017 goal of more than 8,000 pledges – doubling our count from last year’s campaign. I’m confident we will achieve this goal given the passionate group of dealers who have come forward to lead the charge.”
