Markel International, Toronto and London, March 27, 2018 --- Markel International, the specialist insurer, has appointed David A. Crozier to be president of Markel Canada, its business which operates across the country, with offices in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. David will take up his position at the beginning of 2019 and is expected to join Markel in the middle of this year.
His appointment follows the retirement of Karen Barkley at the end of the year. Completing a 40 year career in the insurance industry Karen has held positions at Zurich, AIG, CIGNA, president of ACE INA Insurance, and a past chair of the Insurance Institute of Canada.
David joins Markel from Everest Insurance Company of Canada, where he was president and chief executive officer, having previously been senior vice president, operations, for Economical Mutual Insurance Company. Prior to that, he held a number of positions at Chubb Insurance Company of Canada, latterly as vice president, Prairies.
Reporting to Simon Wilson, managing director, national markets, David will be responsible for the strategic direction and development of Markel’s Canadian business. Simon said: “David will develop Markel’s position in Canada as the go to name for specialty insurance, building on the great foundations established by Karen, and opening up the Markel global product portfolio to the Canadian market.”
