Mitchell & Whale Insurance Brokers has been a family-run business since 1948, when it was run by its founder Harold Mitchell. Today, the brokerage is operated by Adam Mitchell, who is the third generation of Mitchells leading the business.

Mitchell & Whale offers a variety of coverages to businesses and families, including auto, home, and motorcycle insurance, as well as life insurance, cyber insurance, and coverages for all types of large and small businesses.

The brokerage boasts a 90% client retention rate, and its motto is to make “insurance not suck.”

Adam Mitchell – President
Adam Mitchell has been at the helm of Mitchell & Whale through many of its accomplishments, including the brokerage’s recognitions as one of IBC’s Top 10 Brokerages for the past four years and Innovator of the Year at the 2016 IBAO Awards for several achievements, including hitting triple-digit growth from 2010 to 2016 and implementing a modern e-commerce model for clients throughout Ontario.

Mitchell is a frequent fixture on IBC’s Elite Brokers and Young Guns lists, and continues to stay on the lookout for the next growth opportunity. On top of ensuring excellent service and continuous growth, Mitchell puts a high priority on building the best culture within the broker community. His recent focus has been on creating a “Google-like” office space to offer his staff an exceptional working environment with excellent recreational perks.

When he’s not busy running Mitchell & Whale, Mitchell stays on the move by playing squash and golf, as well as surfing, kiteboarding, and skiing. 

Culture
Mitchell & Whale has an innovation team that develops tools to improve workflows and create efficiencies within the organization. The brokerage is well-known for its casual dress code, though the team takes its focus on personal growth and self-improvement seriously. In 2018, it expanded into a new office that has a putting green, ping pong tables, and a full gym.

Over the last decade, since Mitchell has led as president, Mitchell & Whale has grown organically from $2.5 million GWP to $25 million.
