My family and I immigrated to Canada from Russia when I was eight years old. I grew up in Burnaby, B.C and attended Simon Fraser University, where I received a BA in Criminology in 2010. While I initially planned to attend law school, I decided to take a much-needed break from school to give back and reflect on my next steps. I joined the Canadian Cancer Society as a volunteer to co-chair a special events committee for a local fundraiser, Relay for Life. In the committee, I was introduced to a number of women who work in the insurance industry and who encouraged me take a hard look at the insurance industry as a career choice. At the time I worked at a community branch of the Alzheimer Society, but decided to take a chance on a new direction. I enrolled into the British Columbia Institute of Technology’s Insurance and Risk Management program in 2015 and graduated in 2017 with a Diploma, shortly after earning my CIP designation. In June 2017, I was hired by Wilson M. Beck Insurance Services Inc. as an Associate Account Manager. Over my four consecutive years with the firm, I have steadily been learning the ropes of construction insurance and risk management. My direct team consists of two principals of the firm and a senior producer who have broad books of business, ranging in types of accounts and placements. What makes my position at WMB unique is its hybrid nature, which allows me to work with both clients and markets on the marketing, management, and administration of annual and project insurance placements. I was promoted to an Account Manager in 2018. Highlights of my career at WMB recently involve the placement of the largest wood frame construction project in the firm’s history. Also, the placement of large, multi-building, mixed use concrete developments in Vancouver and Richmond. My long-term goal is to continue moving towards an executive role and growing my own book of business in the real estate development and construction space. In my spare time, I love to travel, get outdoors, and spend time with my family and husband.
