Specialist re/insurance broker BMS has announced the establishment of its new global healthcare liability division, appointing Rob Wendin (pictured above) as managing director.
This division aims to support healthcare providers and their insurers by offering access to BMS’s range of insurance, reinsurance, and risk management services and products.
Wendin, who joined the company in December 2023, is based in London. His team comprises six members with further additions expected.
Wendin brings over four decades of experience across insurance, reinsurance, and healthcare sectors. His previous roles include managing director of healthcare at Guy Carpenter, senior partner at JLT’s Healthcare Risk Partners, and managing director at Marsh’s EMEA Healthcare Practice.
Known for expertise in healthcare liability and risk management, Wendin has also established and led the European Healthcare underwriting platform at Allied World.
“BMS has been going from strength to strength and it shows no sign of slowing down as a result of the way it puts its colleagues and clients first. I am delighted by the opportunity to lead this new division and look forward to being a part of BMS’s fantastic story,” Wendin said.
The new division will concentrate on enhancing market capacity, innovating solutions, and providing risk management advice to BMS's clients. It will also handle advice and transactional services related to technical coverage issues for medical malpractice and associated liabilities.
Wendin’s team will also collaborate closely with BMS Re’s treaty healthcare liability team, which is led by Clare Stenson. This collaboration aims to ensure that cedents, hospitals, integrated systems, and captives continue to receive BMS’s exemplary service.
Andrew Wheeler, president and CEO at BMS Re, commented on the strategic importance of this new division.
“As we continue to grow our industry-leading medical professional liability practice, Rob’s unparalleled experience across both insurance and reinsurance will be a huge asset to BMS. Alongside Clare Stenson and her team, the formation of Rob’s global healthcare division means we have a breadth and depth of experience which spans insurance, reinsurance, treaty, and facultative arrangements, which - crucially - isn’t inhibited by geographical or organizational barriers,” he said.
