IQUW has appointed Andrew Tongue (pictured above) as lead underwriter to oversee its credit and political risk team.
He will report to Chris Wilkinson, head of specialty, and will be responsible for shaping the company’s product offerings in this sector.
Tongue has nearly 15 years of experience in credit and political risk underwriting. Before joining IQUW, he was deputy head of credit and political risk at Canopius Group in London.
IQUW noted the team’s expertise, saying that under Wilkinson’s guidance, it will focus primarily on credit risks while also providing traditional political risk coverages on a global scale.
The company said that its offerings will also include sovereign non-payment risk, as well as derivatives and swaps designed to help clients manage financial exposures and market volatility.
Besides its credit and political risk offerings, the specialty re/insurer also bolstered its portfolio solutions division with the appointment of Elisabeth Groehe and George Connell. Both were brought in to help the firm in distributing underwriting approaches to brokers, managing general agents (MGAs), and broker facilities worldwide.
Also announced last month was the expansion of IQUW’s energy team, with three appointments made to bolster its underwriting, claims and engineering capabilities.
The additions include Chris Touhey as senior underwriter, energy; Darren Stewart as head of marine, energy, and aviation claims; and Darryl Krobel as MEA engineer. The trio operates from IQUW's London office, supporting brokers and insureds with technical expertise.
Outside of appointments, IQUW also recently entered a partnership with mea, an AI-driven processing platform for re/insurers, which aims to enhance IQUW’s underwriting productivity by incorporating mea’s AI technology to streamline and automate underwriting processes across its operations.
