Tokio Marine Kiln (TMK) has announced the appointment of Yixiang Yang as the head of accident and health (A&H) for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region, effective immediately.
Yang, an expert in A&H underwriting, brings almost 20 years of experience in the APAC market to TMK.
Pavlos Spyropoulos, regional managing director for APAC, highlighted the importance of the appointment.
“Accident and Health is a key product for TMK in Singapore. We have been writing A&H on the Lloyd’s Asia platform for more than a decade and are rightly regarded as a leader in the class, due, in no small part to the strength of our claims function. A&H will also be a key driver in meeting our growth ambitions of doubling the size of our Lloyd’s Asia platform by 2027,” he said.
Prior to Zurich, he worked at AXA as a distribution manager, focusing on health and lifestyle products and building relationships with brokers and financial advisory firms across Asia.
Yang began his career in underwriting at NTUC Income.
“Yixiang is a recognised expert in A&H, who brings the requisite underwriting expertise, commercial acumen, and entrepreneurial flair to accelerate our growth and deepen our presence in target markets across Asia,” Spyropoulos said. “I am very pleased to welcome him to the team.”
TMK’s decision to appoint Yang is part of a broader strategy to expand its operations in Singapore and the region.
The company aims to double the premiums written through its Lloyd’s Asia platform by 2027. In line with this goal, it recently bolstered its property underwriting team in Singapore by hiring Jonathan Grossman as an underwriter.
Grossman’s background spans nine years in the property insurance sector, mainly in Australia and New Zealand. Before joining TMK, he was responsible for overseeing the property strategy and portfolio management at Chubb New Zealand. He also held roles in property underwriting at Liberty Specialty Markets and Allianz.
In his new role, Grossman will focus on expanding the company’s reach across the APAC region.
