The General Insurance Association of Singapore (GIA) is organizing its first-ever marine insurance conference which will bring together global marine insurance and maritime industry figures to discuss the latest developments and emerging issues.
The Singapore Marine Insurance Conference 2017 is part of the activities under the Singapore Maritime Week, an initiative of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore. The conference is also part of the GIA’s push to draw attention to the marine underwriting community through advocacy, education, and engagement activities.
Lars Lange, secretary-general of the International Union of Marine Insurance (IUMI) will deliver the opening speech of the conference. Other notable guest speakers at the event are: Stephen Gordon, managing director of Clarkson Research Services; Warwick Norman, CEO of RightShip Pty Ltd; Joe Venetico, head of property underwriting (Asia) at
Generali; and Chern Meng Huat, marine client manager at Lloyd’s Register Asia.

Topics that will be discussed include market factors such as prices and supply/demand trends, the relationship of analytics and big data with marine insurance, environmental regulations, and supply chain risks.
Commenting on the upcoming conference, Michael Gourlay, chairman of GIA Marine Insurance Committee, said: “As we move into a changed world with new challenges and opportunities from technological developments, GIA’s Marine Insurance Conference provides a platform for the exchange of ideas and solutions and will function as an important networking opportunity for the local and international insurance and maritime communities to meet.”
Gourlay will also give the closing address of the conference, which will be held at April 27, 2017 at the Orchard Junior Ballroom, Sands Expo & Convention Centre, Singapore.
