MS Amlin has added three new faces to its Asia-Pacific underwriting team, hiring from various major re/insurers. All three are based in Singapore.

Neal Thomas joins MS Amlin as property & energy underwriter from Swiss Re, where he was most recently director, head of property and casualty. He joined Swiss Re in 2008, and before relocating to Singapore he was in charge of Swiss Re’s onshore energy and mining team in London. Earlier in his career, he was with Markel as a Lloyd’s underwriter.

Vivian Kuay was appointed as underwriter to the cargo team. She began her career as an underwriting executive at First Capital, before joining Royal & Sun Alliance where she was responsible for the reinsurance and retail cargo business for both the broker and agency channels. Before being hired by MS Amlin, Kuay worked for Marsh and led its cargo account in Singapore, helping develop its project cargo business in Asia and the Middle East.

Meanwhile, Sam Pik Ying was hired as P&I underwriter from Singapore War Risks Mutual (SWRM), where she was an underwriter for marine hull war insurance for three years. In 2011, she joined Standard Club Asia, where she underwrote shipowner’s and charterer’s liability insurance for Asia-based ship operators.

“We are committed to growing our presence in the Asia market and I am delighted to welcome these three new members to the team,” said Simon Clarke, chief executive of MS Amlin. “Their knowledge and experience of the local market will prove invaluable as we look to expand our proposition and continue to enhance services for our brokers and clients.”
