Markel, the insurance division of Markel Group Inc, has announced the appointment of Jack Taylor as executive, distribution strategies and business development for the Asia-Pacific region.

Taylor (pictured) will be based in Singapore and will focus on strengthening broker relationships as part of the company’s broader effort to expand its market presence in the region.

Markel Asia-Pacific appointment

The newly established position underscores Markel’s strategy to enhance its underwriting and distribution capabilities across Asia Pacific.

Taylor will work closely with regional leaders, underwriters, and Markel’s international teams to promote the company’s specialty insurance offerings and improve broker engagement.

Christian Stobbs, managing director for Asia Pacific at Markel International, highlighted Taylor’s extensive market experience.

“It’s a delight to welcome Jack to Markel. He has an impressive profile in the Singapore market, and I’ve no doubt he’ll strengthen Markel’s links and engagement with our broker partners, both in Singapore and across the wider Asia-Pacific region,” he said.

Taylor joins Markel after holding senior roles at Zurich Insurance in both London and Singapore, where he specialised in business development, broker relationships, and underwriting.

Markel strengthens international casualty portfolio

Taylor joins Markel following three new appointments to support the expansion of the company’s international casualty business and improve claims services for brokers.

Lauren Percival joined as executive underwriter for general liability. She collaborates with James Murray, head of general liability, to drive growth, identify new opportunities, and uphold service levels for brokers and clients.

Percival has nearly two decades of experience in the London Market, including senior underwriting positions at Arch Insurance International and Chaucer. Before that, she spent 13 years with QBE Europe, rising to a senior role within its international casualty division.

Olivia Hogan has been named senior underwriter, focusing on developing Markel’s environmental liability offerings. Working with Graeme Ivory, director of international casualty, Hogan leverages her 12 years of experience in the London Market, where she previously led AIG’s UK environmental line of business.

Ed Norman joined as international casualty claims manager. He oversees Markel’s casualty claims operations globally, managing both complex and routine claims in key areas such as general liability, environmental liability, and life sciences.

With over 20 years of claims management experience, he previously served as assistant claims manager at AXA XL. His responsibilities also includes maintaining responsive service for brokers and policyholders while supporting the development of customised insurance solutions.
