FWD Group Holdings Limited has appointed Andrew Weir, Dominic Leung Ka Kui, and Laura Deal-Lacey to its board of directors, effective Feb. 18.
The company also confirmed the retirement of Richard Sun Po Yuen from the board.
Weir, previously the global chair of asset management at KPMG, has worked with financial institutions and listed companies in Asia and the Middle East for over three decades. He currently holds positions with the Hong Kong Institute of Directors and the Hong Kong Financial Services Development Council.
Leung brings more than four decades of insurance industry experience in Asia, having held senior roles at Ping An Group, Prudential, and Taiwan Nanshan Life Insurance Company.
Deal-Lacey has worked with the Milken Institute since 2013 and now serves as executive vice president for its international operations. She has been a board member of FWD Singapore since 2016 and currently chairs the board.
Following these changes, the board consists of 13 members, including two executive directors, two non-executive directors, and nine independent non-executive directors.
Professor Frederick Ma, chairman of the board, said that the appointments strengthen the company’s governance structure and align with its operational objectives in Asia.
“With these appointments, the board is increasingly diverse with deep business experience in Asia, which is critical to realising the company’s vision of changing the way people feel about insurance,” he said.
He also recognised Sun’s service to the board, saying: “I would like to thank Richard Sun for his many valuable contributions to the board during his tenure since his appointment in October 2022.”
Aside from appointing new board members, FWD’s focus on leadership is reflected in the extension of its leadership training initiative for agency leaders in the Philippines and other Asian markets through a renewed partnership with global business school INSEAD. The agreement extends the FWD Elite Signature program for another four years.
The initiative is part of FWD’s broader “Grow Your Business Big & Fast” strategy, which focuses on developing agency leaders and expanding their business capabilities.
Arnolfo de Leon, head of agency at FWD Philippines, said the program equips agents with the skills to better serve clients and grow their businesses.
FWD Philippines President and CEO Manuel De Rosas added that the initiative provides resources for agents seeking the Million Dollar Round Table designation, a widely recognised professional benchmark in the insurance and financial services industries.
