Texas drivers now have a new coverage option for their cars as they offer ride-hailing services in the state.

Mercury Insurance has announced the availability of its ride hailing insurance in the state to fill gaps in a driver’s car and commercial coverage. The cost of insurance starts at 50 cents a day, or almost $200 a year, the company said.

Local media outlet mySA said that the policy will extend the driver’s personal auto insurance during the three periods of the ride hailing cycle, which are: when drivers have turned on the ride hailing app but haven’t taken a fare; when they are on their way to pick up a passenger; and when they are driving their passengers to their destination.
