Risk management society RIMS has announced that David Arick will serve as president for the 2024 term. Arick assumed the role on Jan. 1.
Arick has worked in insurance and risk management for more than 35 years. Currently, he is assistant treasurer for global risk management at International Paper Company, a producer of fiber-based packaging and pulp. Based in Memphis, Tenn., Arick and his team are responsible for risk financing and captive management, insurance programs and claims management, and property loss prevention engineering.
Arick succeeds outgoing president Jennifer Santiago.
Arick began his career in claims services at Nationwide Insurance. He has also held risk management roles at Banc One Corporation, Abbott Laboratories, Emerson Electric and General Electric. He joined International Paper in 2004.
“Risk management is at a crossroads,” Arick said. “While the profession’s momentum is at an all-time high, to keep it moving in the right direction it is up to the risk community to step out of their comfort zones, sharpen their skills, and set their collective goals even higher.
“To truly tap risk management’s limitless potential, individually, we must be bold and dive into uncharted professional waters. My priority as RIMS president is to ensure that the society continues to deliver opportunities, resources, networking, events and so much more to empower the risk community to confidently dive into the unknown and advance risk management globally.”
Arick has been involved with RIMS throughout his career. He initially served as an officer and board member for the Central Ohio and St. Louis chapters of RIMS. He has also served as a member of the RIMS International Committee, chair of the Long-Range Planning Committee, and a member of the External Affairs Committee. He joined the society’s board of directors in 2019, serving as secretary in 2021, treasurer in 2022, and vice president in 2023.
