Gallagher has appointed Darren Richardson (pictured above) as an energy risk engineer to support its oil and gas operations and clients transitioning to sustainable technologies and processes.
Richardson joins Gallagher from Zurich, where he spent the past eight years, most recently as head of sustainable energy for North America. In that role, he advised on a range of emerging technologies, including e-fuels, bio-gas, bio-diesel, renewable diesel, renewable natural gas, carbon capture and sequestration, hydrogen, and small modular nuclear reactors.
He previously worked as a risk engineer in Zurich’s oil, gas, and petrochemicals downstream energy division and has held engineering roles at BP and GE Oil & Gas.
Richardson’s background includes developing models to help clients perform full environmental disclosures through life cycle analysis and creating business plans grounded in scientific assessment.
His experience also spans risk assessments across various energy facilities, including refineries, fractionators, gas plants, chemical plants, offshore drilling rigs, production platforms, tank terminals, compressor stations, bio-gas, and hydrogen facilities, with a focus on identifying market-relevant risks.
Richardson holds a master’s degree in subsea petroleum engineering from Robert Gordon University and is working on a research thesis focused on the safe and efficient transportation and handling of hydrogen.
