Summit, a regional provider of workers’ compensation insurance services, has announced its entry into the Illinois market.
The expansion follows regulatory approval from the Illinois Department of Insurance for three Summit-managed carriers: Bridgefield Casualty Insurance Company, Bridgefield Employers Insurance Company, and Bridgefield Indemnity Insurance Company. All three carriers hold an A+ (Superior) rating from AM Best Company.
James Wood (pictured above), Summit’s president and CEO, stated that the company is now offering its workers’ compensation solutions to Illinois businesses.
“We are honored to now offer our trusted comprehensive workers’ comp solutions to businesses in Illinois. I am confident that our carrier selection, combined with competitive product options, will be a great fit for this new market,” Wood said. “As Summit’s footprint continues to grow, we remain committed to providing policyholders with tailored loss prevention services, comprehensive claims management and exceptional customer service by a local team of professionals.”
Summit also announced that it has made it easier for independent agents to access its services in Illinois through the WriteNow Online Quoting Service. Property and casualty agents interested in offering Summit’s products can contact Shannan Kennedy for more information on becoming a Summit-appointed agent.
Summit currently offers workers’ compensation insurance services across 15 states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, and Texas. With the addition of Illinois, the company continues to grow its footprint in the regional workers’ compensation market.
Elsewhere in the sector, workers’ compensation rates in Washington are set to rise by 3.8% in 2025, the Washington State Department of Labor and Industries (L&I) announced.
Although the average rate increase is nearly 4%, L&I stated it would require a 5.5% hike to achieve its projected break-even point. To cover the shortfall, the department plans to draw from its reserves. On average, the increase will cost employers approximately $52.50 annually per employee.
