Preferred Employers Insurance, a Berkley company has promoted Eric Hansen (pictured) to senior vice president for underwriting.
Hansen began his journey with the California-based workers’ compensation business in 2006 as a claims manager, advancing through several leadership positions within Preferred’s claims division.
“We are excited to have Eric lead our underwriting team going forward as we continue on our mission of being the preferred workers’ compensation solution for California employers,” stated Preferred president S. Akbar Khan.
“Eric's leadership and expertise will play an important role in our company’s future success.”
Before joining Preferred, Hansen gained valuable experience in key roles with various claims administrators and insurance carriers. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Washington and an MBA from John F. Kennedy University.
Earlier this year, Hansen was elected chair of the California Workers’ Compensation Institute (CWCI) board of directors for 2024. He was first elected to the board in 2014 and has been a member of the institute’s executive committee since 2021.
At the time, CWCI noted: “In his role as chair, Mr Hansen brings over three decades of claims management experience in and around the state’s workers’ compensation insurance system.
“His leadership and claims expertise will surely be a key contributor to California continuing to maintain a thriving workers’ compensation marketplace.”
