UK insurtech hyperexponential has appointed Risa Ryan (pictured) as head of US P&C to lead the company’s expansion.

Based in Manhattan, Ryan most recently served as Sompo International’s chief underwriting officer. She brings more than two and a half decades of industry experience to hyperexponential. Her credentials include time spent at Munich Re, QBE, and Swiss Re.

“I am enormously energized by joining hyperexponential,” Ryan commented. “It’s an insurtech that has grown at pace since launch, and has a compelling, relevant, and timely proposition for US carriers.

“Following exciting conversations with Amrit and the team on their philosophy, vision, and strategy, I am thrilled to be embarking on the journey of assisting insurers in harnessing their data sources, enabling them to make more informed and effective pricing decisions.”

The key hire was referring to hyperexponential co-founder and chief executive Amrit Santhirasenan, who now leads a workforce of over 130 people. Set up in 2017, the pricing platform currently partners with more than 30 (re)insurers, including FTSE 100 and Fortune 500 companies.

Meanwhile, as part of hyperexponential’s expansion plans, chief revenue officer Richard Gunn will relocate from London to New York. The company is also hiring new colleagues for customer delivery, sales, marketing, and product leadership positions.

Lifting the lid on Ryan’s arrival, Santhirasenan stated: “Risa’s appointment marks an important juncture in our growth as a company as we seek to meaningfully expand our on-the-ground presence in North America. As a hugely respected industry figure, she brings with her a wealth of experience, insight, and far-reaching relationships in the US market.

“As importantly, Risa has a deep knowledge and passion for data and predictive analysis, perfectly positioning her to work with actuarial, IT, and underwriting teams to transform their approach to rating, risk assessment, and pricing decisions.”

The firm’s platform, hx Renew, processes over $22 billion of gross written premium annually.
