Digital insurance company Lemonade has announced the appointment of two new members to its board of directors.
Deb Schwartz and Dr. Samer Haj-Yehia will join the insurtech’s board effective immediately. They will succeed departing directors Irina Movoselsky and Silvija Martincevic, who have both accepted CEO roles at other companies.
Schwartz currently serves as chief financial officer of healthcare data technology firm H1. She previously served as CFO at Cameo and Bustle Digital Group. Prior to these positions, Schwartz spent more than 10 years as an equity analyst at Goldman Sachs and Credit Suisse. She holds an MBA from Harvard University and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
“I’ve focused much of my career on developing business and financial strategies that drive growth and innovation,” Schwartz said. “I look forward to working with Daniel, Shai (Lemonade co-founders Daniel Schreiber and Shai Wininger), and the Lemonade board and leadership team as the company continues on its path to profitability.”
Haj-Yehia has extensive executive and board experience in multiple industries in both Israel and the US. Until October, he served as group executive chairman of Bank Leumi, Israel’s largest and oldest bank. In the US, Haj-Yehia has worked in investment management, trading, and fintech innovation at several top firms, including Fidelity. He has also served as a member of public and government committees. Haj-Yehia teaches finance and fintech at Reichman University and is a frequent guest speaker at international conferences. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from MIT, and an MBA, MA and BA in accounting, all from Hebrew University. He is a CFA charterholder.
“I’ve long shared Daniel and Shai’s belief that the power of technology and artificial intelligence have the ability to transform industries, especially centuries-old industries like insurance,” Haj-Yehia said. “Lemonade is doing exactly that, and I’m honored to join the company’s board of directors at this pivotal time.”
“Deb and Samer bring exceptional knowledge and expertise to the board and company – Deb being a true leader and trailblazer in business, healthcare, and the ever-evolving media landscape, and Samer, an incredibly esteemed economist who has broken barriers throughout his career,” Schreiber said. “Their values and breadth of experience will help Lemonade continue to grow and innovate. We’re also hugely grateful to Irina and Silvija for their years of service to our board and company, especially during a period of transformative growth.”
Last month, Lemonade made its UK debut through a partnership with Aviva.
