Gallagher Re has announced that Virgil Antonio de Souza (pictured above) will join its Latin America and Caribbean team in early 2024. De Souza is set to head the surety and credit practice throughout the region.
Operating from Brazil, de Souza comes to Gallagher Re with over two decades of experience in the underwriting and the surety industry. His most recent role was at IRB(Re), where he served as the Brazil treaty manager.
As per his LinkedIn, he managed treaty business for a specific client group and was responsible for the surety, credit, financial lines, and mortgage portfolios for IRB(Re) in Brazil and internationally. During his tenure, he notably contributed to the expansion of the surety portfolio.
De Souza’s professional background includes significant roles in financial and project management, focusing on large capital investments. This experience provided him with an extensive understanding of risk management. His career also includes positions as a surety underwriter at Chubb, Ace, and Liberty, where he was responsible for growing and managing portfolios across Latin America.
A graduate of Boston University’s School of Management, de Souza holds a bachelor of science in business administration with concentrations in marketing and international management.

Elsewhere for its international operations, Gallagher Securities established a new European entity named Gallagher Securities Europe SAS to expand its capital markets business.
