Eric P. Salsberg, vice president of corporate affairs and corporate secretary for Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd, passed away on May 2 at his residence.

Since joining Fairfax in 1988, Fairfax noted that Salsberg had been integral to the company, providing strategic counsel since its inception in 1985.

Prem Watsa, chairman and chief executive officer of Fairfax, expressed his sentiments about Salsberg’s contributions to the firm.

“For all of Fairfax’s history, Ricky has acted as our consigliere and has always represented the true heart and soul of the company. He loved Fairfax and we would not have achieved the success we have without him. Ricky was our partner, trusted friend, and indispensable adviser for 38 years, and all of us here at Fairfax loved him, as did his family, friends, neighbors, and business colleagues,” Watsa said.

“On behalf of the entire Fairfax family, we want to share our most sincere condolences with the Salsberg family on the loss of this truly special person,” Watsa said.

Friends from various phases of Salsberg’s life also shared memories, reflecting on his enduring impact and personality. Mark May from Coos Bay, Oregon, reminisced about their childhood together.

“Ricky was in my religious school class at Holy Blossom Temple and in my Hebrew class starting at age nine,” May said in a social media post. “Seventy years have passed and those memories are with me still. I recall we were expelled from class as we broke down giggling about the torn seam in the teacher’s pants. I missed reconnecting with Rick at many of the UTS reunions. His smile and laughter will reverberate in me for as many years as I have left.”

Salsberg leaves behind his wife, two children, and three grandchildren. His contributions to Fairfax and his memorable personality have left a lasting imprint on both his professional and personal circles.
