Farmers Insurance announced a phased reintroduction of several insurance lines for new customers in California, effective December 14, 2024.
This expansion follows a temporary pause on coverage for condominiums, renters, umbrella, landlord, vacant, and manufactured homes exceeding a year.
The move comes amid perceived improvements in the state's insurance marketplace.
According to Behram Dinshaw, president of personal lines for Farmers Insurance, steps were taken to increase coverage availability for California consumers because the insurance marketplace has strengthened.
"In addition, with the impending implementation of Commissioner Ricardo Lara's Sustainable Insurance Strategy in the coming year, we want to be well-positioned to provide even more coverage options to residents in the state," said Dinshaw.
Farmers will also increase the number of new homeowners policies it accepts monthly from 7,000 to 9,500. This is significant as Farmers is one of the few insurers that continued offering new homeowners insurance policies in California.
New applicants must meet all underwriting criteria. The reintroduced coverages will be available as follows:
This expansion follows Farmers' earlier resumption of new business insurance applications (July 2024) across various industries, including auto service, manufacturing, real estate, and wholesale distribution.
Additionally, Foremost restarted its owner-occupied manufactured home program (September 2024) and its manufactured home FAIR Plan Companion Endorsement offering (July 2024).
