Berkley Equine & Cattle (BEC), a division of Berkley Program Specialists, a Berkley company, has announced two executive leadership appointments.

John Egan, vice president, has been named BEC manager, while Sheila Gott, senior vice president, has been appointed BEC chairperson. She will assist Egan’s transition into his new role and retire later in 2024, BEC said.

Both appointments took effect Jan. 1.

Egan joined Berkley last year as chief underwriting officer. He has an extensive background in the equine marketplace and more than 20 years of insurance experience, with a focus on equine/bloodstock mortality insurance. As part of the transition, the BEC staff now reports to Egan.

Gott joined BEC in 2020. During her tenure, she has enhanced all aspects of the business’s market presence, guiding BEC to become one of the top three carriers in the equine and cattle market. BEC is one of Berkley Program Specialists’ most profitable businesses.

The BEC appointments are the latest in the W.R. Berkley Corporation. In October, John J. Forte was named president of Berkley Public Entity. In August, Lee Iannarone was named general counsel for W.R. Berkley Corporation.
