USAA has announced a $1 million donation to three nonprofit organizations to aid communities and families recovering from the effects of Hurricane Helene.
The storm, which made landfall along Florida’s Gulf Coast, continues to impact several southeastern states.
“Hurricane Helene has impacted millions of our USAA members and continues to cause devastation across the southeast United States,” said USAA president and CEO Wayne Peacock (pictured above). “USAA was prepared to assist before the storm hit and is now actively assisting our members and communities on the road to recovery.”
The donation will be distributed among three national nonprofit organizations: the American Red Cross, Team Rubicon, and Feeding America. These groups will support recovery efforts by providing services such as route clearance, meals, and temporary shelter for affected families.
In 2023, USAA and The USAA Foundation, Inc. committed approximately $46 million in philanthropic contributions. In addition, USAA employees contributed through personal giving and volunteer efforts, logging more than 267,000 volunteer hours and donating over $7 million, which totaled $13 million with USAA's matching contributions.
Most recently, USAA employees raised nearly $600,000 during the company's annual Bowlathon event, with donations benefiting Onward Ops, Overwatch Project, and K9s for Warriors as part of the Face the Fight initiative to combat veteran suicide.
In August, the company announced that Peacock is retiring in the first half of 2025 after 36 years with the company.
Peacock joined USAA in 1988 and has since played a pivotal role in various capacities, including overseeing strategy, marketing, member services, technology, shared services, and corporate real estate. Before his promotion to CEO in 2020, he was president of USAA’s property and casualty insurance group.
