Amwins has acquired Nelligan, an independent general agency specializing in group ancillary benefits

In a move to expand Amwins’ group benefits division, the acquisition will add to the existing ancillary solutions offered by the group such as state disability, paid family and medical leave (PFML), and life and accidental death and dismemberment (AD&D).

Nelligan, founded in 2008, is recognized for its execution in the ancillary benefits market.

With approximately $850 million in in-force premium, more than 400 broker relationships, and 80+ carrier partnerships across the U.S., Nelligan brings a wealth of experience and reach to Amwins. Its 52 employees and market directors will integrate into Amwins’ group benefits team.

“We're committed to becoming the premier Ancillary General Agency partner in the market,” said Riva Dumeny, president of Amwins group benefits. “Nelligan's deep expertise and strong market presence make them the perfect partner to help us achieve that vision. Together, we are expanding our product capabilities, strengthening our relationships, and enhancing our ability to support our partners with even greater value.”

Nelligan CEO Bryan Herman expressed confidence in the partnership’s potential. “Both Nelligan employees and our customers will gain access to resources that enable growth and allow us to expand our services and deliver even greater value to the employee benefit industry,” he said.

“I look forward to working together to continue building the largest, industry-leading ancillary GA in the market,” said Chris Wirth, president of Nelligan. “The future of employee benefits excellence is truly here.”

The acquisition complements Amwins’ broader offerings in self-funded, fully insured, and customized employee benefits programs. It also builds on Amwins’ $10 billion in in-force benefits premium and deepens its collaboration with major carriers nationwide.

Dowling Hales acted as exclusive financial advisor to Nelligan, while Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson provided legal counsel to Amwins.
