AXA XL has expanded its environmental underwriting and claims capabilities in the US and North America with new appointments.
The company has tapped Jeffrey Anastasio to lead its environmental claims team in North America. Anastasio has been promoted from his previous role as an environmental claims manager. He brings over 14 years of claims management experience to the role and has worked on AXA XL’s environmental claims team since 2015.
Anastasio succeeds Kimberly MacDonald, who was promoted to AXA XL’s head of specialty claims in the Americas.
In addition to Anastasio’s promotion, AXA XL has appointed four environmental underwriters – Lindsay Judd, Jay Kao, Angela Case and Igor Pavlo.
Judd has over 14 years of pollution insurance experience. She has held underwriting positions at Zurich and Chubb, addressing the environmental risks of businesses in the real estate, municipality, hospital, biotech, manufacturing, and mergers and acquisitions industries. Judd, who was the director of finance at a Brownfield Redevelopment firm before joining the insurance industry, will be based in San Francisco, CA in her new role.
Kao spent the last seven years as a senior environmental underwriter at Chubb, providing businesses with site pollution and contractors’ pollution coverage. He was a scientist for an environmental consulting firm before starting a career in insurance. Kao will be based in Los Angeles, CA as a senior underwriter.
Case has more than a decade of environmental underwriting experience, having held positions at WestCongress Insurance Services, Tokio Marine and Zurich. In her new role, she will address the multi-line P&C insurance needs of environmental businesses, such as recyclers, hazmat transporters, environmental contractors, consultants, and others. She will be based in Denver, CO.
Pavlo brings more than eight years of underwriting experience in helping environmental businesses address their P&C insurance needs. He was most recently associated with Berkley Environmental. A Marine Corp veteran, Pavlo will be based in Exton, PA.
“The environmental insurance market continues to show growth opportunities, largely driven by increased construction and M&A activities,” said AXA XL environmental insurance business chief underwriting officer MaryAnn Susavidge. “Companies looking to minimize their potential environmental liabilities find that pollution insurance is an effective risk management option. We’re excited to welcome the added experience and enthusiasm that Jay, Lindsay, Angela and Igor bring to the team as we keep pace with our clients’ environmental risks management needs.”
“We’re equally excited to see colleagues like Jeff step up to new opportunities,” added Susavidge. “Given his experience and technical expertise, Jeff, along with his team of dedicated environmental claims specialists, is invaluable in helping our clients manage and control costs associated with pollution claims.”
