Cowbell, a provider of cyber insurance for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and middle-market businesses, has appointed Denise Pagliarulo, a finance veteran formerly with AXIS Capital and Deloitte, to lead its finance team.

As SVP and head of finance, Pagliarulo will oversee global finance operations as the company expands its products, services, and geographic presence.

Pagliarulo joins Cowbell after a 12-year tenure at AXIS Capital, where she most recently served as senior vice president and head of finance for North America. Before joining AXIS, she held the role of vice president of internal audit at American Safety Insurance and served as a senior manager in insurance at Deloitte.

In addition to this new appointment, Cowbell has promoted Eric Biderman to general counsel. Biderman will continue to manage the company’s legal and regulatory compliance functions while supporting efforts to scale operations and increase market penetration.

Biderman has been with Cowbell for three years and previously spent over 16 years in private practice, including a role as counsel in the Insurance and Reinsurance Practice Group at an AmLaw Top 100 firm.

Biderman, who has been with Cowbell since its inception, has helped expand the company’s operations to the UK and India, and led the establishment of risk-bearing entities, including a surplus lines insurance carrier and a reinsurance captive.

Cowbell's founder and CEO, Jack Kudale, said that Pagliarulo brings over 20 years of experience in the insurance industry and is well-positioned to help the company navigate its next phase of growth.

“We are thrilled to welcome Denise to Cowbell as we scale up our offerings in support of our vision to manage commercial digital risk for global SMEs,” Kudale said.

Kudale further noted that 2023 has been a year of growth for Cowbell, marked by the closing of its Series C funding round, a year of operations in the UK, and the expansion of its US offering to businesses with up to $1 billion in annual revenues.

“As we enter this next chapter of our journey and look to grow our policyholder base, I am confident that both Denise and Eric’s leadership will accelerate that rapid growth,” he said.
