Munich Re Specialty has appointed Peter (Pete) Macdonald (pictured) as chief claims officer for North America. Reporting to Sabrina Hart, president and chief executive of Munich Re Specialty - North America, Macdonald will also join the leadership team for the region.

Previously, Macdonald led casualty claims at AIG and has a background in general litigation and corporate law. His experience also includes roles as chief operations officer for a medical supply startup acquired by McKesson and as Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation attorney and operations head.

“Pete’s career is defined by a passion for building high-performing claims teams who are dedicated to business partnerships and industry-leading outcomes,” Hart stated. “His leadership experience and outstanding technical, strategic, and operational expertise will enhance our team’s ability to advance our business strategy.”

Based in Hartford, Macdonald succeeds Mary Beth McClellan, who will transition to group claims director for Munich Re Specialty - global markets.

Macdonald’s appointment follows that of Claudia Carnevale announced in May. Carnevale was chosen to serve as head of US programs at Munich Re Speciality - North America.

“With over 25 years in the insurance industry, specializing in programs, Claudia brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our team,” the company said at the time. “Claudia comes to us from Homesite Underwriting Managers where she was serving as chief risk officer responsible for underwriting, product/compliance, and operational-related services.

“Prior to Homesite, Claudia was at Allied World as head of programs and before that launched the program division for CV Starr. Claudia began her career on the reinsurance side gaining experience in treaty reinsurance portfolio management and pricing.”

Munich Re Specialty caters to wholesale and retail brokers, managing general agents, and program administrators, with expertise in property, casualty, public entity, excess & surplus, binding, marine, and other specialized insurance products, services, and programs for small- to medium-sized organizations.
