Markel has announced the appointment of Jamie Carsey (pictured above) as chief claims officer, overseeing US and Bermuda claims operations within the company’s specialty division.

Carsey joined Markel in 2017 and has held various positions, most recently as senior managing director, claims – legal and head of litigation. Before joining Markel, she was a partner at a Texas-based insurance firm, managing large litigation teams handling complex cases nationwide.

She is a member of Markel’s D&I Global Steering Committee and Talent Advisory Council and serves on the Houston board for the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF). Carsey holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Texas and a law degree from the University of Houston Law Center.

“Jamie Carsey brings extensive experience, knowledge, and leadership that will be instrumental in continuing to strengthen our claims operations alongside enhancing our risk management, compliance, technology, and data efforts,” Markel Specialty president Alex Martin said.

He expressed confidence that her work in the role will enhance Markel’s reputation for superior claims service.

“In partnership with our specialty leadership team, Jamie will continue to advance our claims organization to best serve our partners and customers,” Martin said. “I look forward to her further impact on Markel in this new role.”

In other recent developments, Markel announced the promotion of David Roos to senior director, property and marine for Markel Specialty’s Wholesale Southeast region. This saw Roos taking charge of the Southeast Wholesale property and marine teams, as well as offering solutions and services to trading partners in the region.

“At Markel, we pride ourselves on developing deep benches of underwriting talent like David,” Markel Southeast regional president Steve Girard said. “David’s industry experience and expertise will help us continue to focus on growing our property and marine product lines profitably.”
