Hollywood actor William Shatner may have to trek to court if insurance broker Peter Sloan gets his day with the judiciary as he tries to determine whether the Star Trek mainstay is his father.
Sloan, a resident of Florida, has filed a lawsuit alleging slander, libel, and defamation against the actor, whom he claims is his father based on the account of his mother, the late Kathy Burt.

According to Sloan, Burt recounted that she had a one night stand with the actor while they were still young thespians in Toronto. Sloan went to an adoptive home after Burt gave birth to him and was raised in New York City. He reconnected with the actor in the 1980s and corresponded with her where she purportedly revealed that Shatner could be his father.
Tampa Bay Times reported that the insurance broker filed the lawsuit over allegations that Shatner’s camp damaged his reputation by trying to pass him off as a liar and depicting him as crazy.
Sloan hopes that the court will order Shatner to undergo a DNA test to determine his paternity.
