A UK man is headed to prison for insurance fraud – just weeks after being released from prison for insurance fraud.
Jaymz Clarke, 37, was incarcerated in 2015 for scamming about 150 drivers with fake car insurance. Just weeks after his release, Clarke was discovered trying to take out fraudulent trade and personal vehicle cover, according to a report in The Basingstoke Gazette.
Clarke used phony names and addresses and forged documents to take out the coverage because he was known in the industry for his previous conviction, the Gazette reported. However, after he took out a policy with Tradewise Insurance, the insurer became suspicious and called in one of its fraud investigators.
When the investigator initially contacted Clarke, Clarke answered the phone using an alias. When the investigator called again, Clarke said he was the policyholder, and the investigator told him that his policy was being terminated because his documentation was fraudulent, the Gazette reported. After the calls, the investigator felt the voices on both calls were the same. A voice-analysis expert confirmed that Clarke had been on both calls.
Clarke also tried to scam another insurer by taking out fraudulent personal car insurance, according to the Gazette. He pretended to be taking out the policy for his father and once again used a phony name and address in order to bring the premium price down.
Clarke was sentenced to eight months in prison and ordered to pay £750 in court costs.
