The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) has launched a campaign to raise awareness of the impacts of legal system abuse on Georgian stakeholders including consumers, businesses, and insurers with an Interstate 20 billboard in Downtown Atlanta and digital billboards across the Metro Atlanta area on bus stops and other urban panels.
Georgia is ranked as the worst "Judicial Hellhole" in the US, according to the American Tort Reform Association due to its excessive volume of lawsuits, damage awards and a hostile legal environment.
“Our work aims to educate Georgians on how these legal practices increase their auto and home insurance costs and negatively impact everyone,” Triple-I president and CEO Sean Kevelighan shared.
Kevelighan added that billboard attorneys in the state continue to exploit legal loopholes, which inflate costs for everyone - consumers, businesses and the local economy.
“In fact, this abuse costs each Georgian $1,372 per year and contributes to over 137,000 job losses annually. We are committed to shedding light on these practices and advocating for comprehensive legislative reforms that address legal system abuse,” he added.
Townley Kenton president Rob Townley, who is also an independent Keveglihan and Atlanta insurance agent, reaffirmed this observation, stating it has become inflated to the point where it is no longer viable for some insurance companies to operate in the state.
“What people don't realize is insurance is very core to a functioning economy and if it gets to the point where our insurance companies do not want to be in the state then we get into a very bad situation economically,” he concluded.
Triple-I launched a consumer website in conjunction with the ongoing Atlanta awareness campaign efforts called StopLegalSystemAbuse.org, talking with several consumers in depth about their opinions on billboard attorneys' tactics across America for encouraging lawsuits.
