Topa Insurance Group has named a new chief financial officer to succeed one of its retiring executives.

Lawrence Genalo, who was most recently assistant vice-president of financial planning and analysis with Topa Insurance Group, has been promoted to vice-president, chief financial officer. In his new role, he will report directly to Topa Insurance Group president and CEO John Donahue.

Genalo first joined Topa Insurance in 2016 as manager of financial planning and analysis. He was later promoted to the position of director in 2017, then to assistant vice-president. A release said that Genalo has also been an “essential contributor” to the company’s core team, by helping with evaluating and on-boarding Topa’s programs.

Through his appointment, Genalo replaces senior vice-president and chief financial officer Cynthia Morrison (pictured), who retires January 31, 2019.

Morrison has been serving Topa Insurance as chief financial officer since August 2014 – her latest role in her 25-year career with the insurance group. She will remain with the company through her retirement date to help facilitate the transition of responsibilities.

“I am sincerely grateful for the contributions and impact Cynthia has made over the past four years to both our results and culture,” commented Donahue. “From her start in the industry more than 25 years ago, to her chief financial officer role at Topa Insurance Group and board position with the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation, Cynthia has made her mark.”
