In August, the Plexus Groupe, a national commercial insurance brokerage and consulting firm, named Edmund A. Stephan, III (pictured), as corporate attorney. Stephan will provide oversight on all legal matters, contract review and client claims support, while also helping facilitate Plexus’s M&A strategy for future growth.

Based in Illinois, Stephan will be working directly with leadership, colleagues, and clients across America to stay ahead of client needs and strengthen the firm’s legal capacity.
Prior to joining Plexus, he served as Associate General Counsel for Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc. in Northbrook, Illinois, where he provided litigation support as well as contract review and oversight of the company’s risk management and insurance programs.
He began his legal career in Washington, DC, practicing environmental coverage litigation and title insurance litigation. Stephan then branched out to Chicago litigating insurance coverage actions, handling issues regarding environmental, asbestos and transportation claims, and defended transportation, premises, and contract claims.
Stephan earned a Juris Doctor degree and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and holds state bar admissions in Illinois, Indiana, Maryland and in various federal courts.
“I have a mix of both in-house and law firm experience as an attorney, have a substantial insurance background, and a strong background in liability,” said Stephan. “In my previous role I was focused on risk management - it’s more than just insurance it’s keeping people safe, and I like to think I bring that perspective to Plexus.”
Plexus, headquartered in Deer Park, Illinois, focuses on providing solutions in employee benefits, property & casualty insurance, corporate retirement plans, personal lines insurance, benefits technology services and mergers and acquisitions. Stephan will be playing a vital role in continuous growth in all segments.
