US insurance giant State Farm has pulled all adverts from TBS program “Full Frontal” after the show’s leading lady Samantha Bee called Ivanka Trump a “feckless c***” live on air.
The comedian’s remark sparked a fierce backlash from viewers and advertisers. Multiple companies, including State Farm, have pulled advertisements from the show.
State Farm asked TBS to suspend its adverts on Thursday and released the following statement: “We constantly review programs to ensure alignment to our programming guidelines and brand values.”
Likewise, automotive-classifieds website Autotrader fled its association with the show, telling CNN: “We will not run Autotrader advertising on Samantha Bee’s show moving forward.”
Bee’s comment was hurled in reaction to a photo Ivanka Trump shared of herself with her child over the weekend. The picture was regarded by some observers as tasteless when coupled with news about the Trump administration’s policy on migrant children.
The comedian scorned the picture, saying: “Do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c***.”
However, her comment did not go down well. After significant uproar, Bee issued a statement apologizing to the first daughter on Thursday. TBS also released a statement, labelling Bee’s remark “vile and inappropriate”. It remains unclear whether disciplinary action will be taken.
