State Automobile Mutual Insurance has announced that Jim Sappington has been elected to the company’s board of directors.
Sappington cultivated a decades-spanning career with McDonald’s Corporation, where he spent more than 30 years. He began in accounting, later moving to IT where he served as McDonald’s senior director of international IT. Sappington has since held other roles of increasing responsibility, including US vice-president and chief information officer, as well as corporate vice-president of global technology. He was later named US vice-president and general manager for McDonald’s northwest region after participating in the company’s Accelerated Operations Program.
He most recently served as McDonald’s executive vice president of global operations, digital and technology – a role Sappington held from 2018 until earlier this year, when he announced his retirement.
“Jim’s experience in driving technology innovation and business transformation is very well aligned with where we find ourselves in our own transformation,” said State Auto president and CEO Mike LaRocco. “As our progress continues toward becoming a leading digital provider of personal and commercial insurance through independent agents, Jim’s expertise will be extremely valuable.”
