International specialty insurance firm Ryan Specialty has announced the immediate appointment of Derek Pouliot (pictured) as chief reserving officer for Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers (RSUM).
In his new capacity, Pouliot will oversee the valuation of underwriting results for all RSUM-written business. His responsibilities include conducting portfolio analysis, risk modeling, early warning detection, and generating analytical claims data and insights.
Miles Wuller, president and chief executive at RSUM, expressed his approval of Pouliot’s promotion, saying: “I’m pleased to recognize Derek in this new role. Derek has been an invaluable colleague to our managing general underwriters and carrier trading partners, helping us drive underwriting profitability goals across our platform.”
RSUM encompasses a range of managing general underwriters and national programs that offer tailored insurance solutions for various industries.
Previously, Pouliot served as senior vice president and chief profitability & risk actuary at Ryan Specialty. In that role, he was instrumental in developing the RSUM profitability analysis and played a crucial part in establishing and advancing Geneva Re as a risk-bearing instrument supporting business written by RSUM.
Before joining Ryan Specialty, Pouliot served as chief actuary and head of actuarial function for an insurance company in Ireland. His credentials also include a decade spent at Liberty Mutual Insurance.
Pouliot’s appointment comes on the heels of other internal moves at Ryan Specialty. Earlier this month, the company’s wholesale distribution division RT Specialty announced several hires.
The promoted colleagues included Rob Polansky, president of field operations binding authority, and six account management team members in RT Specialty’s Hamilton office in New Jersey.
Founded in 2010, Ryan Specialty caters to insurance brokers, agents, and carriers, providing distribution, underwriting, product development, administration, and risk management services by acting as a wholesale broker and a managing underwriter with delegated authority.
