Specialty insurance firm Ryan Specialty has made two additions to its line-up of leaders, one for group captives and the other for life sciences.

Ryan Alternative Risk (RAR), a division of Ryan Specialty, has appointed Michael F. Albian (pictured left) as president of group captives. With 15 years of experience in the insurance industry, Albian has spent the last 11 years specializing in group captive programs.

In his new role at RAR, Albian will focus on expanding the firm’s consulting and captive management services. Based in Chicago, he will leverage RAR’s expertise in reinsurance, alternative risk financing, and specialized carrier relationships to support large and complex clients.

RAR chief executive Kieran Dempsey commented: “I am thrilled to welcome Mike to the Ryan Specialty family. Adding Mike’s exceptional group captive experience to RAR, we can deepen our offerings and enhance the solutions provided by Ryan Alternative Risk.

“We look forward to working with Mike as we continue expanding our alternative risk expertise.”

In another strategic move, Ryan Specialty hired Tom Daniels (pictured right) as managing director of LifeScienceRisk International. Daniels, based in London, brings 18 years of international insurance experience with a strong focus on life science risks over the past nine years.

Catherine Gill, CEO of LifeScienceRisk, had this to say about the key arrival: “I am excited that Tom is joining the LifeScienceRisk organization. He is a talented and exceptional life science underwriter. Tom’s passion, client centricity, and leadership will help accelerate the growth and expansion into the international life sciences market.”

The appointments come on the heels of Ryan Specialty’s acquisitions of US Assure Insurance Services of Florida, Greenhill Underwriting Insurance Services, and Geo Underwriting Europe.
