The National Council of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) has announced its newly elected officers for 2025.

Asw. Pamela Hunter (N.Y.) has been elected as president; Sen. Paul Utke (Minn.) was named vice president; Rep. Edmond Jordan (La.) was appointed treasurer, and Rep. Jim Dunnigan (Utah) was named secretary. Rep. Tom Oliverson (Texas) will remain as immediate past president, the organization said.

As president of the council, Hunter said she is excited to work with fellow officers and legislative colleagues to continue expanding the council’s reach and develop sound public policy on the issues the insurance and financial services sectors could face next year.

“NCOIL has seen tremendous growth over the past several years and I’m honored to be elected President to further advance the organization and help it thrive for many more years to come,” Hunter said.

According to her website, Hunter was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2015 and is the chair of the Banks Committee. Prior to that, she chaired the Public Safety Committee of the Syracuse Common Council.

The council’s recently elected vice president, Utke, noted that this year marked one of the organization’s strongest years in terms of participation from legislators and he expects that enthusiasm to continue in 2025.

Oliverson, who was this year’s president, added that it was a great year to serve as they were able to grow the legislative membership of the council and develop policy on a wide range of issues. He also expressed satisfaction with the organization's current direction.

This year, NCOIL’s Property and Casualty Insurance Committee endorsed the NCOIL Public Adjuster Profession Standards Reform Model Act, which introduced comprehensive standards for public adjusters.

The council’s latest set of officers assumed their positions at the conclusion of the 2024 NCOIL annual meeting held in San Antonio, Texas, on Nov. 21-24.

At that meeting, the council also adopted five new Model Laws that address key industry issues.
