MetLife releases sustainability report

MetLife has released its 2023 Sustainability Report, underscoring its commitment to aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals most pertinent to its operations.

The report highlights MetLife’s strategic initiatives and progress toward its sustainability objectives, the company said in a news release.

Key achievements detailed in the 2023 Sustainability Report include:

• Surpassing its goal to invest $1 billion in diversity-focused initiatives by 2030, with over $1.4 billion invested between 2021 and 2023.
• Reducing emissions through enhanced energy efficiency, decreased consumption at office locations, greener vehicle fleets, and minimized business travel.
• Securing over $58.5 billion in responsible investments within MetLife’s General Account as of the end of 2023, targeting infrastructure, green projects, municipal bonds, affordable housing, and impact investments.
• Exceeding $1 billion in lifetime donations by the MetLife Foundation, supporting inclusive economic mobility and addressing the needs of underserved communities globally.
• Completing more than 144,000 volunteer hours worldwide in 2023, fueled by the dedication of MetLife employees.

Earlier this month, MetLife announced that its subsidiary, Metropolitan Tower Life Insurance Company, had partnered with 3M to provide annuity benefits to approximately 23,000 retirees and beneficiaries of the 3M Employee Retirement Income Plan.

Earlier this year, the company announced the appointment of Michelleta Razon as head of data enablement.
