Marsh McLennan has appointed Carlos Rivera (pictured) as CEO for its Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) division and president of Marsh LAC. Effective Jan. 1, 2025, Rivera will step into his new role, succeeding Ricardo Brockmann, who will transition to the position of chairman for the region.

Rivera, currently CEO of Marsh McLennan’s Carpenter Marsh FAC, brings 24 years of experience in the global insurance and reinsurance market to his new position. Based in Bogota, he will report to Flavio Piccolomini, CEO of Marsh McLennan International. His responsibilities will include overseeing the company’s regional strategy to enhance client services and expand value across the firm’s LAC operations, with a particular emphasis on Marsh’s insurance broking and risk advisory services.

“Carlos has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by businesses and communities across the LAC region. His knowledge of the regional and international risk and insurance markets, and his leadership over two decades at Marsh, will be key to providing our clients with the confidence they need to grow and thrive sustainably, manage uncertainty, and find opportunities in today’s volatile risk landscape,” Piccolomini said.

Rivera joined Marsh in 2001, starting in the firm’s Colombia office and later working as a reinsurance broker in London. In 2016, he returned to Colombia as head of placement for all 11 operations of Marsh LAC and has led Carpenter Marsh FAC since 2020.

Reflecting on his new position, Rivera emphasized his commitment to a collaborative strategy. “Together, we will help our clients to tackle future challenges, provide innovative services, and promote sustainability,” he said. Rivera also noted his enthusiasm for working with the firm’s regional and international teams in delivering Marsh McLennan’s resources and expertise across the LAC region.

Brockmann, who will remain based in Mexico City, will support Rivera’s efforts to guide Marsh McLennan’s regional objectives, focusing on client innovation, sustainability, and operational excellence. Brockmann’s tenure with Marsh McLennan spans more than 25 years, including recent service as CEO of Marsh McLennan LAC and president of Marsh LAC since February 2023. His career in the insurance industry totals over four decades, marked by leadership roles at Marsh LAC and Marsh McLennan Mexico for 13 years.

“Under Ricardo’s leadership, Marsh McLennan’s LAC businesses are the undisputed leaders in their respective fields across the region. His vision and commitment have transformed the region and inspired the team towards future growth and success,” said Piccolomini.
