Duncan Ellis (pictured) is rejoining insurance brokerage Marsh on September 24 before taking on the role of practice leader for US and Canada real estate & hospitality (RE&H) in December.
The key hire has a long history with Marsh, having previously spent 27 years at the firm. During his tenure, he held various roles, including US property practice and alternative risk transfer leader, prior to his move to AIG in 2019.
At AIG, Ellis served as head of retail property for North America general insurance and most recently was head of retail distribution for North America. Upon his return to Marsh, he will collaborate closely with current RE&H practice leader Paul Foye to ensure a smooth transition.
In his new role, Ellis will lead a team of specialists focused on delivering tailored risk solutions to clients across the real estate and hospitality sectors in the US and Canada. Based in New York, he will report to Darren Cromwell, managing director and industry practices leader for Marsh & Mercer in the two countries.
“Duncan is a well-known and respected leader with a proven track record of innovation and growth,” Cromwell noted. “We welcome him back to Marsh and look forward to leveraging his extensive underwriting, broking, management, and market experience to empower our clients to thrive.”
Cromwell also expressed his gratitude to Foye for his leadership for more than a decade, saying: “I also want to personally thank Paul for his exceptional leadership and contributions to the practice during his 11-year tenure as RE&H practice leader.
“We are fortunate that our clients and colleagues will continue to benefit from his experience and expertise as he transitions into a senior client relationship role.”
