Liberty Mutual Insurance has announced that Marc Orloff will take on the role of president of Global Risk Solutions (GRS) North America starting January 1, 2025.
Orloff will report to Neeti Bhalla Johnson, president of GRS, and will oversee the financial and operational performance of GRS North America, which encompasses commercial and specialty insurance operations in the U.S., Canada, and Bermuda. These operations span Major Accounts, Middle Market, and Specialty segments.
"Looking ahead, my priority will be to continue our underwriting-led culture, focusing on intentionally shaping our portfolio, driving specialization across the markets we choose to compete in, and leaning into the depth and breadth of our expertise to seamlessly enable products for our broker and client partners," said Orloff.
Orloff's appointment follows the planned retirement of Kevin Smith, the current president of GRS North America, at the end of 2024.
Smith, who has nearly 35 years of experience in property, casualty, and specialty insurance, will transition to an advisory role. In this capacity, he will continue to report to Bhalla Johnson and remain engaged with key clients and broker relationships.
"I'm extremely confident Marc and the dedicated North America team will drive our business forward and capture the opportunity ahead of us," said Smith.
According to Bhalla Johnson, both Orloff and Smith have extensive underwriting expertise and strong broker relationships.
"Kevin has been instrumental in shaping and growing our North America business, and I look forward to our ongoing collaboration in his new advisory role. I am also fully confident that Marc will build on the foundation of our differentiated North America strategy as we create the (re)insurer of the future," she said.

Orloff currently serves as president of GRS North America, Middle Market, where he has focused on developing strategies to grow the franchise in targeted industries.
Since joining Liberty Mutual in 2011, he has held several leadership positions, including president of North America Field Operations, and senior vice president and general manager for the Northeast region in the GRS Major Accounts group.
Prior to Liberty Mutual, Orloff spent a decade at Travelers Insurance in various roles across underwriting, distribution, and operations.
Smith joined Liberty Mutual in 2022 and played a key role in enhancing the financial and operational performance of GRS North America. Before his tenure at Liberty Mutual, he served as president and chief operating officer of CNA Insurance's specialty business. He also held various leadership positions in underwriting, marketing, and field operations at Chubb North America.

Meanwhile, as Orloff transitions into his new role, Dieter Korte, currently chief underwriting officer for GRS North America, Middle Market, will take on additional responsibilities as interim president of Middle Market.
