Liberty Mutual Insurance will begin the second quarter of 2025 with Nicole Arangio stepping into the role of executive vice president and chief compliance officer (CCO).
Arangio's appointment will take effect on April 1, 2025, following a transition period in the preceding months.
Currently, Arangio serves as CCO for Global Risk Solutions and Compliance Enablement, leading efforts to manage compliance activities across Liberty Mutual's global operations.

Since joining the company as counsel in 2000, Arangio has held various leadership roles within Global Legal & Compliance. Her responsibilities have included oversight of financial crimes, compliance education, and the establishment of the compliance enablement team. She is also a founding leader and co-executive sponsor for WE@Liberty, the company’s employee resource group for women and allies.
Liberty Mutual president and CEO Tim Sweeney noted Arangio’s extensive experience in legal and compliance fields.
"With more than two decades at Liberty Mutual, Nicole is a trusted advisor with an ability to forge deep relationships to bolster an enterprise view of compliance that advances and protects our company," said Sweeney.
The announcement of Arangio's appointment coincides with the planned retirement of Karen Morton, the current executive vice president and CCO, at the end of March 2025.
Morton expressed gratitude for her time at the company, highlighting the collaborative efforts in advancing its global strategy.
"With [Arangio's] extensive expertise and deep legal experience at Liberty Mutual, as well as her exceptional leadership capabilities, she will offer a strategic perspective as she works with the executive leadership team to continue driving the business forward," said Morton.
Morton joined Liberty Mutual in 2006 as vice president and assistant general counsel for Employment, Benefits, and Corporate Services. Over her tenure, she advanced to leadership roles, including deputy general counsel for the Litigation and Coverage Group.
During her nearly 20-year career with the company, Morton led initiatives to develop a unified global compliance strategy, enhance data utilization for risk mitigation, and establish the Liberty Legal Academy.
She also co-sponsored LEADA@Liberty, an employee resource group supporting employees of African descent and their allies.
Sweeney acknowledged Morton’s significant contributions to Liberty Mutual’s legal and compliance functions.
"I am grateful for her many contributions to our company and her dedicated support and commitment within our employee resource groups. I'm personally grateful for her friendship over the years and wish her the very best in her next chapter," Sweeney added.
