Liberty Mutual has laid off 25 employees from its Springfield, MA office as the insurer outsources work to “an external partner.”
“These changes will impact approximately 25 employees in Springfield who currently perform administrative tasks for field legal offices. These employees will have the opportunity to pursue other job openings at Liberty Mutual, or we will support each of them with outplacement assistance,” Liberty Mutual spokesperson Glenn Greenberg said in an email statement to The Republican.
Greenberg added that the last day of employment for the affected employees “who do not pursue or secure other opportunities within the company” will be November 16.
The layoffs come as Liberty Mutual enters a strategic partnership with an “external partner,” who will be tasked with handling “administrative work,” Greenberg explained.
The 340 other employees of the Springfield office – located at 1 Federal St. – will not be affected by the layoffs. Most of the other employees work in a service call center assisting the insurer’s auto and home insurance customers.
Greenberg also revealed that each employee affected by the layoff “was provided with information about the termination of their benefits after their final day of employment and their options.”
