A South River, NJ, law student was found guilty of insurance fraud for making fraudulent claims with Liberty Mutual.
MaCaulay Williams, 44, was deemed guilty of one count of insurance fraud in the third degree and one count of attempted theft by deception in the third degree for falsely filing a claim with his insurer. Williams had filed the fraudulent claim seeking $31,500 for reimbursement of living expenses while his home was being treated for mold.
Ironically, Williams was a law student at the time when he filed the falsified claim to Liberty Mutual.
Williams also made false submissions between May 01, 2013 and December 05, 2013 regarding a claim for reimbursement, also with Liberty Mutual. The claim he submitted was for $1,500 a day for 21 days – in the form of two checks that he had written for his girlfriend to pay for her rent.
It was determined that the two checks were written, but never cashed.
Patch reported that Williams is facing a prison term of three to five years; he will be sentenced July 13.
