The Knights of Columbus has donated $25,000 to the Connecticut Food Bank. The donation will provide tens of thousands of meals to those in need this holiday season.
The donation is part of the “Leave No Neighbor Behind” initiative launched by the Knights of Columbus at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic in March.
“The Knights of Columbus is pleased to provide this donation to help the Connecticut Food Bank put food on the table for thousands of families this Thanksgiving,” said Carl Anderson, Knights of Columbus CEO. “We remain grateful for the Connecticut Food Bank and the vital role it plays in our founding state.”
“We are grateful for the continued support from the Knights of Columbus,” said Daniel Gomez, chief operating officer of the Connecticut Food Bank. “This donation is perfectly timed and will go to work putting food on the tables of households across our area in the challenging weeks and months ahead.”
Demand for food in Connecticut and across the country has skyrocketed since the outset of the pandemic. Many Connecticut Food Bank member agencies have seen demand increase as much as 50%. At the same time, food donations have dropped due to disruptions in the supply chain. Prior to the pandemic, two-thirds of the food distributed by the Connecticut Food Bank came from food industry donations. Those donations have dropped by nearly 60%.
